Mount spec road & Paluma

Mount spec road & Paluma

Heading up north we made a short detour recommended by the travel guides in the area – the Mount spec Road, 60 km North of Townsville. It is a very beautiful scenic road that was built by hand during the Great depression in 1930. Winding through Paluma Range National Park, it features beautiful stonework, especially the masonry arch bridge over Little Crystal Creek. We’ve met there an art school – 10-15 girls and their teacher were just sitting on the stones, drawing the nature around.

We continued up to the Paluma, an historic village, known as the village in the mist. It currently has only 25 inhabitants, but each house has flowers in the garden and looks very welcoming.

This place was the home of some American soldiers during WW I, as the lookouts in the area offer good view of the ocean and the surroundings.
