Gold Coast

Wow! Lots of kilometers of gold, soft sand beach! Truly amazing!

Our first day here was quite “un-probable” as I like to say. We arrived in the morning and knocked at the door of our host (a friend of a friend of the Bear) – let’s call him Sam. We knocked and knocked and called on his mobile…nothing! We could only hear a dog on the other side of the door. When we were just about to leave, an old lady (let’s call her Dora), dressed all red, appeared, entered the apartment, kissed the dog and started to shout “Sam, Sam, wake up! Sam….”, then she looked at us – “Who are you?” – “We are Sam’s friends, we are supposed to stay with him for a few days” – “What’s your name?” – “Marius!” – “Sam, Marius is here! Wake up” – and she asked us to enter. We entered in a guy’s apartment (if you know what I mean) and met Sam, a little bit stoned after a “difficult” night. “Hey guys, sorry, I forgot you were coming today! Meet Dora, my adoptive mum.”

I do not remember the rest of the conversation, but somehow we spent the whole morning at the biggest market on the Gold Coast (something like “Dragonul Rosu” in Bucharest) where Dora wanted to take a picture together with Sam and a big snake, bought a big plastic knight, yellow roses for me, a white flower for her house and a bunch of other unusual stuff. Dora writes comedy and is the funniest old woman I have ever met!

On the other hand, the Bear says that Surfers Paradise has Miami’s flavor! I cannot argue, I have never been there. However, I swam in the warmest ocean ever, sunbathed on the softest sand and had the experience of a sunset and dinner in the highest building in the Southern hemisphere. Almost the perfect place!
